Ontario NDP calls on the federal government to step in and stop Ford’s waterfront takeover

QUEEN’S PARK — Marit Stiles, Leader of the Ontario NDP and Official Opposition, joined MPPs and community members to call on the federal government to step in and stop Doug Ford’s waterfront takeover:

“Doug Ford is giving himself the power to take over the Toronto Islands, Little Norway Park, and city lands along the waterfront for his latest Toronto-obsessed scheme,” said Stiles.

“He is planning to sink billions more taxpayer dollars into turning Toronto into his own personal playground, when he could be investing in the future of our province.”

Doug Ford has claimed that the federal government endorses latest attempt to expropriate city lands and take control of the Toronto Islands to expand the Billy Bishop Airport.

“It’s time to put an end to this ridiculous land grab and put focus of the government back to the rest of the province,” added Stiles. “This is why I’m calling on the Prime Minister to use the federal government’s role in this agreement to put an end to Ford’s waterfront takeover.”

“This out-of-touch Premier cannot stop being obsessed with Toronto. He has a whole province to run, but he is more focused on land grabs in downtown Toronto against the people’s will.”
